Twelfth Bus of Migrants from Texas Spotted in LA

In yet another instance, a bus transporting migrants from Texas arrived in Los Angeles on Monday morning. This marks the twelfth arrival since June 14, as confirmed by Mayor Karen Bass’ office, according to Zach Seidl, the Deputy Mayor of Communications.

Seidl further stated that the city has been diligently working in collaboration with various departments, county officials, nonprofit organizations, and faith partners to implement the plan developed earlier this year. As soon as they were informed about the bus, they promptly activated their established plan.

This recent arrival adds to the total of 435 migrants from Texas that have been welcomed by the city since the first bus arrived last week, as announced by Mayor Bass’ office.

Operation Lone Star, orchestrated by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, has been arranging these trips in response to the overwhelming number of immigrants crossing the Mexican border into Texas. It is a joint effort involving the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Military Department along the southern border.

Governor Abbott has stated that the purpose of this operation is to counter the influx of immigrants, combat illegal drug trade, and prevent human smuggling. He shared on X (formerly Twitter) that since August 26, the operation has resulted in over 420,800 apprehensions, 33,600 criminal arrests, 30,500 felony charges, the seizure of 436 million fentanyl doses, and the transportation of 33,230 migrants to designated “Sanctuary Cities.”

Emphasizing the need for border security, Abbott remarked, “Texas secures the border in Pres. (Joe) Biden’s absence.” He added that the refusal by President Biden to secure the border has led to the overwhelming situation faced by small border towns in Texas. Moreover, with Los Angeles being a major city and having declared itself a sanctuary city, many migrants are drawn to it. As a response, Texas will continue to provide necessary relief until President Biden takes action and fulfills his duty of securing the border.

On June 9, the Los Angeles City Council approved a motion to formally establish the city as a sanctuary city. Additionally, last week, they approved a motion for the City Attorney’s Office to investigate any potential crimes committed on or before June 14 when the first shipment of 42 migrants arrived in Los Angeles, as part of Governor Abbott’s initiative.
