On Tuesday, Delta Air Lines Flight 175 safely landed in Atlanta, although not without a number of injured passengers. The flight, originating from Milan, Italy, experienced severe turbulence as it approached Atlanta, as reported by NBC News. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the turbulence occurred when the plane was approximately 40 miles northeast of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The Airbus A350, carrying 151 passengers and 14 crew members, successfully landed just before 7pm. The severity of the injuries was not disclosed by Delta, who stated that their main priority is the care of the injured customers and crew members.
This incident follows another flight’s encounter with severe turbulence, which left passengers in a state of distress. The flight was en route to Majorca from Alicante, Spain, when a violent storm struck the island, as reported by Newsweek. One passenger, Estela Orts Martínez, described the experience as being like a roller coaster, leaving her feeling vulnerable and dependent on someone else for her life. In response to multiple failed landing attempts, the plane returned to Alicante. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The following day, Jimmy Nicholson, an off-duty pilot and star of The Bachelor Australia, posted a viral TikTok video where he shared his experience of what he considers to be one of the worst turbulence encounters he has ever felt. According to Insider, Nicholson explained that turbulence is a normal occurrence during flights and planes are designed to withstand much worse. However, he recommended that passengers monitor flying conditions using the “water bottle trick,” observing the movement of water in an upside-down bottle. In this case, he noted that the water wasn’t moving much. Additionally, Nicholson suggested looking out of a window or opening overhead vents for fresh air to alleviate discomfort caused by turbulence.
