Truth behind cause of death of Pop Idol star Darius Danesh revealed by his girlfriend

In August 2022, Scottish Pop Idol sensation, Darius Danesh, tragically passed away at the age of 41. He was found unresponsive in a hotel room in Minnesota, with initial reports suggesting that he died from inhalation of chloroethane.

The autopsy revealed that Danesh’s death was caused by the toxic effects of chloroethane, coupled with suffocation. It was officially ruled as an accidental death.

However, his girlfriend, Lauren Cheek, claims that he had an undetected heart condition. According to her, Danesh’s heart had swelled to twice its normal size. In an interview with The Sun, Cheek said, “Darius was living with this heart condition that he didn’t know he had. His heart was twice the size it was supposed to be, which was fitting, because that is genuinely how he was – he had so much love.”

Tragically, the mixture of chloroethane with his enlarged heart proved fatal. Additionally, the autopsy revealed that Danesh had been living with a broken neck since a car accident in 2010.

Cheek stated that Danesh refused to seek medical help for his broken neck and used chloroethane as a pain reliever. She said, “I don’t think it ever fully healed, and then he rebroke it because he got hit by a car in London.”

Danesh was in Minnesota visiting his friend Gerard Butler, who expressed his grief at the singer’s passing, calling him “a true brother in arms.” The discovery of Danesh’s body reportedly took three days to be communicated to his loved ones, leading to questions about the handling of the situation.

Darius Danesh gained fame with his impressive performances on the talent show Popstars in 2001, where he delivered a memorable rendition of Britney Spears’s “Baby One More Time.” He went on to reach the final of Pop Idol in 2002, finishing in third place behind Will Young and Gareth Gates.

One of his standout moments on the show was his rendition of Tom Jones’s hit “It’s Not Unusual” and Atomic Kitten’s “Whole Again.” The Pop Idol final was watched by more than 13 million viewers.

Despite turning down a record deal from Simon Cowell, Danesh achieved a number one hit in the UK with his track “Colourblind” later that year. His album Dive In reached the top 10.

On August 19, Cheek will be releasing a new podcast called Grieving Back to Life on what would have been Danesh’s 43rd birthday, honoring his memory.
