Trump’s Legal Battle Against 14th Amendment Challenges to Keep Him on Ballot

Minnesota Supreme Court dismisses frivolous lawsuit in an attempt to keep Trump off primary ballot

On Wednesday, the Minnesota Supreme Court got rid of a pointless lawsuit aiming to prevent Trump from appearing on Republican primary ballots. Chief Justice Natalie Hudson stated in her opinion that there is no state statute against a major political party nominating or supporting a candidate who cannot hold office, as cited by Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the U.S Constitution. However, despite dismissing the lawsuit, the court did leave the possibility open for a general election challenge by the plaintiffs.

This dismissal on the grounds of the 14th Amendment was not taken lightly by Trump who called it a ‘ridiculous 14th Amendment lawsuit’. Nevertheless, the court made no initial ruling on the merits of the 14th Amendment argument, essentially allowing the plaintiffs to carry on pursuing the challenge to keep Trump’s name off general election ballots.

Meanwhile, the legal battle against Trump also rages on in Michigan, where arguments have begun in two separate lawsuits seeking to bar Trump’s name from appearing on both primary and general election ballots.

These lawsuits are similar in nature to the one dismissed by the Minnesota Supreme Court, using Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to argue that Trump should be disqualified from running again in any capacity.

However, Trump’s legal team is prepared to challenge these allegations, arguing against the lack of evidence that the former president intended or supported any violent or unlawful activity, seeking to overthrow the U.S. government.

Ivanka Trump’s involvement in these legal disputes is also notable, as she is expected to take the stand in the $250 million financial fraud lawsuit related to overinflating the value of her family’s assets. Her testimony, alongside her father and elder brothers, is likely to play a significant role in the ensuing legal battle.
