Trump’s Habit of Engaging with Classified Documents Described as ‘Very Disturbing’, Says John Bolton

John Bolton, the former national security adviser to Donald Trump, has made startling claims about his former boss mishandling classified documents. Bolton revealed that he personally witnessed Trump engaging in questionable behavior by collecting items such as clippings, mementos, and classified documents that piqued his interest. This behavior deeply disturbed Bolton, who spoke about it during an interview with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki. The former national security adviser stated that he noticed a pattern in Trump’s behavior where he would retain information from intelligence briefings and other meetings. Although efforts were made to retrieve these documents, they were not always successful.

Bolton cited one incident where Trump disclosed information regarding Iran on Twitter, which originated from a document he had retained from an intelligence briefing. Bolton unequivocally condemned this action and stated that there was no justifiable reason for it, other than to satisfy Trump’s personal gratification. According to Bolton, this example is indicative of Trump’s mindset.

The allegations made by Bolton are deeply concerning as they compromise sensitive information, increasing the risk of foreign adversaries obtaining it. Bolton emphasized the importance of the criminal statutes surrounding this issue, highlighting their purpose to protect sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands.

During the interview, Psaki inquired whether Bolton would support Trump if he were to secure the nomination in 2024. Bolton revealed that he had voted for Trump in 2016 but did not do so in 2020. Instead, he wrote in the name of a conservative Republican when casting his vote in Maryland. Bolton asserted that he would make the same decision in 2024.
