In an interview with Semafor, Cohen revealed that he has received encouragement from many people to run for office. Currently residing in New York’s 12th District on Manhattan’s East Side, he plans to run as a Democrat. If he proceeds with his candidacy, he will likely face off against current Rep. Jerry Nadler, who has been serving in Congress since 1992 and has been the Democrats’ top representative on the House Judiciary Committee.
However, Cohen’s potential candidacy is overshadowed by the charges he pleaded guilty to in 2018, which include lying to Congress and banks, evading income taxes, and breaching campaign finance laws. Despite completing a little over a year of his three-year sentence behind bars, he was released early due to the pandemic.
