In a new interview with NBC News, former President Donald Trump revealed that he did not “respect” his attorneys and made the decision to challenge the results of the 2020 election he lost to Joe Biden. Trump’s comments came in response to a question from “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker about why he ignored the advice of senior lawyers in his administration and on his campaign.
When Welker pressed him about hiring these attorneys to be his legal counsel, Trump countered, “You hire them, you never met these people.” He went on to explain that he didn’t respect them because they turned out to be “RINOs” or “not so good.” However, he did respect others who supported his claims that the election was rigged.
When asked about his decision-making process, Trump emphasized that his instincts played a significant role. He attributed his success to his instincts and acknowledged that he made the ultimate decision to believe that the election was rigged. However, he did admit to listening to others who shared the same belief.
Currently, Trump faces two indictments related to his efforts to retain power. Special counsel Jack Smith has charged him with multiple federal crimes, including a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruct an official proceeding. Additionally, he has been indicted in Georgia on numerous felonies in a wide-ranging racketeering case that involves 18 other defendants.
Welker also asked Trump about the ongoing investigations into his behavior, including state charges in New York and federal charges related to hush money payments and handling classified documents. Trump responded by saying that he doesn’t worry about going to jail and doesn’t even think about it, suggesting that he is mentally and emotionally resilient.
