Former President Donald Trump once again criticized the judge and the law clerk overseeing his civil fraud trial in New York, accusing them of political bias in a recent Thanksgiving Day social media post.
This renewed attack comes after Trump had frequently raged against Judge Arthur Engoron and his clerk. In response, Judge Engoron imposed a gag order last month on the second day of the $250 million New York civil fraud trial against the former president. Trump’s legal team also faced similar restrictions due to the expanded gag order.
Although the gag order has been temporarily lifted as of last week, it did not hinder Trump from accusing Engoron of defrauding him and the state of New York on his Truth Social platform, while also alleging the clerk’s political bias and corruption.
In the same post, Trump also took aim at President Joe Biden and other left-wing individuals, labeling them as “Radical Left Lunatics, Communists, Fascists, Marxists, Democrats, & RINOS, who are seriously looking to DESTROY OUR COUNTRY.”
The New York Unified Court System did not immediately respond to this renewed criticism following the removal of the gag order.
Prior to this, Trump had violated the gag order, leading Judge Engoron to fine him twice for a total of $15,000. Trump’s lawyers appealed, deeming the fines as excessive and claiming that the judge didn’t follow the proper procedure when imposing them.
Appellate Division Justice David Friedman, who paused Engoron’s gag order, cited “constitutional and statutory rights at issue” when granting the interim stay following Trump’s legal team’s argument that the gag orders were “not narrowly tailored.”
This disdain for the judge and the law clerk overseeing his trial continues to draw attention and further fuel the division within the legal system.
