Trump Faces Same Charge That Lands Ex-FBI Analyst in Prison for 46 Months

A former FBI intelligence analyst, who faced charges similar to those against former President Donald Trump, has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison by a federal judge in Missouri. Kendra Kingsbury, who held a top-level security clearance during her 12 years at the FBI’s Kansas City division, admitted to having over 380 classified documents in her home in both digital and physical formats. She pleaded guilty to willfully retaining national defense information. In contrast, Trump is currently facing 31 counts of the same violation. Judge Stephen R. Bough, an Obama appointee, handed down a sentence of three years and 10 months to Kingsbury. The judge expressed disbelief that Kingsbury would jeopardize national security by keeping these documents in her bathtub, according to the Kansas City Star. Prosecutors had sought a sentence of four years and nine months, while Kingsbury’s attorney requested probation, citing personal issues that allegedly influenced her judgment. The court records reveal that Kingsbury had been assigned to various FBI squads with a focus on issues such as drug trafficking, violent crime, and counterintelligence. The improperly retained records pertained to ongoing investigations, national security operations, intelligence gaps, and FBI technical capabilities against counterintelligence and counterterrorism targets. Prosecutors noted that their investigation into Kingsbury’s use of the classified documents revealed more concerns than answers. In Trump’s case, he has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, claiming that he was allowed to have the documents. His indictment included photographs showing stacks of banker’s boxes in different rooms of his Florida golf resort, including a lavishly decorated bathroom.
