Troubles Arise for Donald Trump’s Social Media App Following Launch

Donald Trump’s new social media app, Truth Social, is encountering initial challenges as users report difficulties logging in shortly after its launch. The app, backed by Trump Media & Technology Group, became available on Apple’s App Store late on Sunday night.

New users have expressed frustration as they were placed on waitlists due to “massive demand,” with others experiencing issues registering for an account.

This app marks Trump’s anticipated return to social media after being banned from platforms like Twitter and Facebook following the Capitol Hill riots last year. He faced accusations of inciting violence, resulting in rioters breaching the Capitol Building.

Truth Social has undergone testing in recent weeks, and Donald Trump Jr. shared a screenshot of his father’s first message on the app, stating, “Get Ready! Your favorite President will see you soon!”

Initial reports suggested the app’s launch could be delayed as regulators investigate Digital World, a special purchase acquisition company (Spac) involved in Trump Media & Technology Group’s plan to go public. The merger between Digital World and Trump Media & Technology Group is expected to provide approximately $300 million (£220 million) to support the Truth Social app. The company has also raised $1 billion from private investors, which will be accessible upon completion of the merger.

Former Republican representative Devin Nunes leads the Trump Media & Technology Group. Nunes was reportedly active on the app last week, encouraging users to share more photos and videos.

In an interview with Fox News, Nunes expressed excitement about the app’s upcoming release on the Apple App Store. He mentioned the goal of achieving full operational capacity within the United States by the end of March.
