Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a knee injury during Sunday’s 37-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. While it is described as a knee sprain, it is not considered significant. However, Lawrence’s availability for Thursday night’s game against the New Orleans Saints is uncertain due to the short week.
In Tuesday’s practice, Lawrence was listed as a limited participant. He expressed optimism about playing this week, but the final decision will be made on Thursday. “I’m doing everything I can to be out there. I feel better today than expected, so I’m happy with my progress,” said Lawrence.
Lawrence sustained the injury on a sack late in the fourth quarter, and backup quarterback C.J. Beathard replaced him for the remainder of the game. Despite the short turnaround, head coach Doug Pederson has labeled Lawrence as “day-to-day.”
Pederson recalled a similar situation last year when Lawrence was injured but still played in the following game. He highlighted Lawrence’s determination and ability to recover quickly. “If Trevor’s sore, we’ve dealt with this before. C.J. took the Wednesday reps, and Trevor took the rest of the week and was ready to play,” said Pederson.
Throughout his three-year professional career, Lawrence has not missed a game. In six games this season, he has a record of 4-2 and has thrown for 1,439 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions. His average of 239.8 passing yards per game ranks him 11th in the NFL.
The Jaguars now face the New Orleans Saints, who boast a top-five defense. Lawrence’s progress in practice will be closely monitored leading up to the game. If he is unable to play, Beathard is expected to start at quarterback.
