  • A fearful flyer vows never to board a plane again after a harrowing near-miss incident.
  • An Allegiant Air flight had to take evasive action to avoid a collision with a jet.
  • The plane suddenly shot straight up, causing flight attendants to fall over, according to a passenger.

A Kentucky woman expresses her reluctance to fly again following a terrifying near-miss incident on an Allegiant Air flight in Florida.

Jerrica Thacker, a 21-year-old on only her second flight, experienced a sudden and dramatic maneuver as her plane attempted to avoid a collision with a private jet shortly after takeoff from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Thacker recalls the plane shooting straight up, causing concern among passengers and leading flight attendants to fall over. She describes the sensation as similar to a roller coaster, but she later learned that the plane was actually ascending.

Thacker gripped her seat’s armrests and braced herself until the plane leveled back out, describing the incident as the scariest moment of her life.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that the Allegiant Air flight took evasive action after the pilot received an automated alert about another aircraft approaching at the same altitude. The FAA confirmed that a flight attendant was injured during the incident.

Allegiant Air declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation and referring inquiries to the FAA.

After the plane stabilized, the pilot addressed the passengers, revealing that the abrupt maneuver was necessary to avoid a collision. Thacker observed other passengers, including her family, crying and praying.

Thacker and her family opted to drive back to Kentucky

Upon landing, Thacker and her family chose not to reboard the plane and instead rented a car for the 15-hour journey back home to Kentucky.

“We were all really shaken up; no one wanted to fly again,” Thacker expressed.

Thacker now firmly states her aversion to flying, believing it to be a matter of unfortunate luck. The incident occurred early in her flying experience, leading her to conclude that flying is not meant for her.
