Cody Ince, a talented former offensive lineman for the Iowa football team and promising NFL prospect, tragically passed away at the age of 23, just months before he was set to marry his fiancée in his hometown of Wisconsin.

Although the exact cause of his death has not been disclosed, his unexpected passing has left his loved ones shocked and devastated.

Ince had been eagerly anticipating his wedding with Olivia in May of 2024, as mentioned on their wedding page.

During his time at Iowa, Ince started in 10 games between 2018 and 2021, and was seen as having a promising future in the NFL before injuries forced him to retire from football, according to The Athletic’s Scott Dochterman.

Unfortunately, Ince’s football career was marred by a series of injuries, leading him to make the difficult decision of leaving the Hawkeyes with one year of eligibility remaining in Iowa City.

‘I am incredibly sad to hear about Cody Ince’s sudden passing,’ expressed Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz in a statement, as he revealed that Ince was engaged to be married.

‘Cody was a remarkable young man, a valued teammate, and a contributor to our program. He had a passion for football, fishing, and hunting, and he deeply believed in the importance of family and friendships. Cody had just started this new chapter in his life and was about to enter the sacred bond of marriage.

‘My wife Mary and I are heartbroken for his fiancée, his family, and all his friends who knew and loved him. All of us in the football program, his coaches and teammates, are grieving this devastating loss.’

Ince was also recognized for his academic achievements, earning the distinction of being an Academic All-Big Ten honoree and making the Dean’s List in 2021, as reported by a local ABC affiliate.

‘I had the honor of knowing and playing with Cody during my time at the University of Iowa,’ shared former teammate Tyron Tracy Jr. on Ince’s memorial page.

‘Not only was he an exceptional teammate, but he was also an incredible person! Always wearing a smile and cracking jokes, but he took his role on the field very seriously, and I admired that about him. He would often bring deer jerky or sunflower seeds, and he never forgot to share them with me.

‘It’s the little things that I will cherish! Thank you, Cody, for being such an amazing person and friend!’

Ince is survived by his loving fiancée Olivia Tucker, his parents Tammy and Marty Ince, and his sister Carly.
