The brutal beating death of a 17-year-old Las Vegas high-school student, caught on video, has led to murder charges against eight juveniles, as reported by the Las Vegas police.

The victim, Jonathan Lewis, succumbed to his injuries after being mercilessly beaten in an alley near the Rancho High School campus in a fight over stolen wireless headphones and a marijuana vape pen, confirmed a police spokesperson.

The tragic incident took place on November 1, following school hours, with the violent events captured on video and widely shared on social media. The footage depicts approximately 10 individuals assaulting Jonathan, leading to his unconsciousness and ultimately, his demise, according to Las Vegas police Lt. Jason Johansson.

The video, described as graphic and void of humanity, prompted the arrest of eight juveniles, aged 13 to 17, all students at Rancho High School, on charges of murder, according to Undersheriff Andrew Walsh.

Half of the arrested teens will be tried as adults, while the remaining defendants, ages 13 to 15, will face certification hearings in family court, as per the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The tragic loss of Jonathan has devastated the entire school district, revealing the widespread impact of this senseless crime, as stated by the Clark County School District.

Described as a kind and protective young man, Jonathan was trying to intervene and protect a friend from being bullied and robbed, as stated by his father, Jonathan Lewis Sr. An autopsy confirmed that Jonathan’s death was due to blunt force trauma.

A foundation has been established in honor of Jonathan, reflecting his spirit and the impact he had on those around him, as detailed on the Team Jonathan website.

Investigators are seeking additional individuals seen in the video of the beating and urge anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the importance of holding all involved parties accountable, as emphasized by Undersheriff Walsh.
