Tragic Loss of Manhattan Beach Officer, Las Vegas Shooting Survivor, in Devastating 405 Freeway Crash – Orange County Register

Manhattan Beach police officer, Officer Chad Swanson, who survived the mass shooting at the Las Vegas music festival in 2017, tragically passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 4. He was involved in a fatal car accident when a car collided with his motorcycle, throwing him to the ground, according to officials.

The incident occurred on the northbound 405 Freeway in Carson near Del Amo Boulevard at approximately 5:15 a.m. The driver of one car allegedly hit another car, leading to the loss of control and the collision with Officer Swanson.

Lt. Kelly Benjamin of the Manhattan Beach police revealed that Officer Swanson, a devoted family man, leaves behind a wife and three sons. The department is currently mourning the loss: “We’re hurting, we’re grieving,” said Lt. Benjamin.
