Wael Dahdouh, a well-known journalist for Al Jazeera Arabic, experienced a personal tragedy on Wednesday when he discovered that his wife, son, daughter, and grandson were tragically killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza. Al Jazeera, the news channel Dahdouh works for, condemned the indiscriminate targeting of innocent civilians and expressed its condolences for his loss.
A video shared by Al Jazeera showed Dahdouh in tears as he walked through the hospital halls, accompanied by other press members who offered their support. Dahdouh embraced the lifeless body of his son Mahmoud and questioned the senseless killings. His 7-year-old daughter, Sham, was also shown with a bloodied face in other images.
While some of Dahdouh’s family members are receiving treatment in the hospital, his son Yehia had to undergo a medical procedure in a hospital corridor. The family had sought refuge in Nuseirat, a supposed safe zone, after being forced to leave their home in northern Gaza due to an expected ground invasion.
Despite this devastating loss, Dahdouh’s colleagues anticipate that he will continue his reporting. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Dahdouh expressed his commitment to capturing the truth and sharing the realities of what is happening in Gaza.
