Law enforcement received reports of a shooting at Palmetto Estates in Miami, where they discovered Cruz, her husband, and another male individual suffering from gunshot wounds. A woman present at the scene was unharmed, as per police statements.

The husband of Cruz was found deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to authorities. Cruz and the other male, referred to as a “family acquaintance” by the police, were transported to a local hospital. However, Cruz succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival, while the family acquaintance remains in critical condition.

The Miami-Dade Police Department has classified the incident as a murder-suicide and its homicide bureau is conducting an investigation into both deaths.

Cruz worked as a teacher at Doral Academy Just Arts and Management Charter Middle School, where she taught middle school algebra, geometry, and Spanish.

A GoFundMe campaign organized by the school emphasizes Cruz’s status as a beloved and dedicated teacher.

Principal Eleonora Cuesta expressed deep sadness over Cruz’s loss and conveyed condolences to her daughters in a statement to NBC Miami.
