The bodies of the victims were discovered on Monday night during a response to a house fire. Firefighters attempted a rescue but sadly found that both victims had already succumbed to their gunshot wounds.

Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee revealed to WLBT-TV in Jackson that initial investigations suggest the mother was shot once, while her son sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Witnesses reported hearing an argument between Fulgham and Zina Williams before gunshots rang out. The couple resided together in the Forest, Mississippi area and were both employed at a Tyson Foods plant, according to Sheriff Lee.

“It appears that, based on preliminary findings, the child may have heard the gunshot, got frightened, cried out, and then unfortunately became a victim himself,” said Lee during the interview with WLBT.

According to WAPT-TV in Jackson, Fulgham was seen leaving the residence driving Williams’ car, which was later reported missing. He was apprehended without resistance by authorities in the neighboring Lauderdale County.
