Tragic Incident: Detroit Woman Shot and Killed during Heartbreaking Baby Shower

A tragic incident occurred at a baby shower in Detroit, where a woman was shot and killed following a disagreement with a longtime friend, according to family members.

Authorities have identified the victim as Phebe Williams, 53. The shooting took place on Sunday, and the identity of the shooter has not been disclosed, stated Detroit police Capt. Donna McCord during a press conference on Monday.

After the shooting, Williams’ son allegedly struck the suspect with a car. Both individuals are now in police custody, officials reported.

Shavonda Carter, the niece of Phebe Williams, shared with local news outlet WXYZ that her aunt and the alleged shooter had been close friends since childhood.

“I can’t comprehend why she would resort to pulling out a gun,” expressed Carter.

According to family members, the argument between the two women revolved around one of Williams’ sons, who was present at the baby shower. The alleged shooter, who was not invited to the event, had previously accused Williams’ son of a crime and reported him to the police a few days prior.

As reported by WXYZ, Williams physically confronted the other woman, leading the latter to draw a gun and shoot her.

“They could have settled it with a fight. Pulling out a gun was unnecessary,” Carter expressed. “There were children in the house and many people present, so why resort to using a firearm?”

Capt. McCord described the incident as a tragic case of senseless gun violence, highlighting that the alleged shooter possessed a concealed firearm permit.

“If you find yourself in a situation where you require police assistance, please call us. Let us handle the situation,” McCord advised. “Don’t take matters into your own hands. If possible, remove yourself from the situation and dial 911. Allow us to come and resolve the issue.”

According to McCord, the alleged shooter fled the scene and later turned herself in to the police. The victim’s son pursued her and struck her with his vehicle as she exited her car.

The alleged shooter was taken to the hospital in serious condition, McCord stated.

Both the shooting suspect and Williams’ son are currently awaiting charges. In a statement to HuffPost, a spokesperson for the Wayne County Prosecutors Office mentioned that two warrant requests have been received regarding the incident, and further details will be provided once a decision to press charges is made.
