A man tragically lost his life after attempting to trespass the McKinley Elementary School campus in Long Beach while armed with a sledgehammer. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when a group of adults confronted the man, resulting in his untimely demise.

The Long Beach Police Department promptly responded to a home invasion robbery call in the 6700 block of Orizaba Avenue at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, the officers were instructed to proceed to McKinley Elementary School, located at 6822 Paramount Blvd. It was revealed that the man had trespassed into the school’s parking lot by climbing over a fence while brandishing a small sledgehammer.
Undeterred, the man then tried to scale a second fence surrounding the campus, but he was apprehended by a group of individuals who held him down until the authorities arrived.
Tragically, firefighters arrived at the scene only to pronounce the man deceased.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death is currently underway. As he was restrained in handcuffs at the time, the incident is being treated as an in-custody death.
In a statement, the police confirmed that no force was used during the encounter.
At present, the man’s identity has not been disclosed to the public.
