A tragic incident has occurred in a peaceful suburban neighborhood in Illinois, where a family of four and their three beloved dogs were discovered shot to death in their home.
Authorities are currently treating the deaths as potential homicides, but no specific suspect has been named in public.
The victims have been identified as Alberto Rolon, 38, Zoraida Bartolomei, 32, and their two sons, aged 10 and 7. Their bodies, along with the bodies of their three dogs, were found by police in their Romeoville home on Sunday night.
Concerned for their well-being when one of the parents failed to show up for work and did not respond to calls throughout the day, a family member contacted the authorities, as stated in a statement from the Romeoville police.
Law enforcement officers who responded to the call discovered that the entire family had succumbed to gunshot wounds. The incident is believed to have taken place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the previous night, according to the police.
Deputy Chief Chris Burne mentioned during a press conference that the authorities do not suspect a murder-suicide. The three dogs of the family were also discovered deceased within the property, Burne added.
The police are actively searching for a suspect, although they believe there is no immediate danger to the local community.
Members of the neighborhood have revealed that the family moved to the area just a few months ago and tended to keep to themselves.
Carol Love, a neighbor living next door, disclosed to the Chicago Sun-Times that she had spoken with Bartolomei on Friday.
“It’s an incredibly tragic situation. They were kind people who never caused any trouble,” Love conveyed. “I hope the person responsible is brought to justice.”
Several neighbors have reported that they did not hear any gunshots coming from the house, according to the Sun-Times and CBS Chicago.
In light of the tragic loss, Rachel Kinder, the superintendent of the Valley View School District, where the children attended school, expressed her condolences in a statement.
“This senseless act of gun violence has resulted in the heartbreaking loss of lives, leaving our school community filled with emotions, concerns, and questions,” stated Kinder.
Bartolomei’s sister has shared a fundraiser on social media to aid with the funeral expenses.
