Tragedy struck during a training exercise on a north Australian island, as an Osprey aircraft carrying 23 personnel crashed, resulting in the deaths of three U.S. Marines. Additionally, five others were taken to a local hospital in serious condition. The Northern Territory Chief Minister, Natasha Fyles, revealed that emergency response efforts were in progress to triage the victims and transport them to local hospitals.
The Marines provided a statement stating that recovery efforts were still ongoing. The Northern Territory Police are collaborating with the U.S. Marines, the Department of Defense, and members from the Department of Health and Careflight to address the situation.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the crash.
