Tragic Accident: Two Lives Lost in Fatal Collision with LAFD Truck

A tragic incident occurred in Los Angeles County early Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of a man and woman in their 20s. Their vehicle collided with a Los Angeles County fire truck, causing the fatal accident.

The crash happened around 12:32 a.m. at the intersection of South Avalon and East Compton boulevards, near the border of West Rancho Dominguez and Compton. California Highway Patrol Officer Sean Lough provided details to City News Service.

According to a statement from the CHP, a blue 2004 Chrysler was speeding westbound on Avalon when it struck the northbound fire truck, which was en route to an emergency call.

The victims, who were residents of Signal Hill, were pronounced dead at the scene. The man was 28 years old and the woman was 26.

“As a result of this collision, three other vehicles sustained minor damage, two of which were unoccupied parked cars,” stated the CHP. “The occupant of the third vehicle did not sustain any injuries.”

Fortunately, the four firefighters inside the fire truck were taken to a hospital for evaluation, but they did not suffer serious injuries.

The intersection remained closed for several hours following the crash.

While witnesses informed investigators that the vehicle responsible for the collision may have been participating in a street race, a CHP official at the scene clarified that there is no confirmed evidence pointing to racing as a contributing factor to the accident.

Tiffany Acker, speaking to reporters, identified her sister, Asia Allen-Bookman, as the woman who tragically lost her life in the crash. Allen-Bookman was a mother to a 3-year-old child. Acker disputed the claims of a street race, stating that her sister was on the phone with a friend and mentioned being chased just before the collision occurred.

The CHP’s South Los Angeles office is urging anyone with information regarding the accident to contact them at 424-551-4000 during business hours. After hours, individuals can reach out to the CHP’s Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at 323-259-3200.
