While Toyota hasn’t revealed the powertrain details for the BLC, they have hinted at the possibility of fuel-cell technology in their actual lunar rover project, which could offer an impressive range of 10,000 km. While the BLC is currently just a concept, it’s worth noting that many of CALTY’s wildest ideas have made it into production in some form. Take the FJ Cruiser, for example. Back in the early 1980s, CALTY was playing around with a modernized version of the original FJ40 Land Cruiser. It took Toyota 25 years, but they eventually built the FJ Cruiser, which showcased elements inspired by CALTY’s original concept. So, who knows? Maybe one day, you’ll be driving a Toyota that looks just like the BLC, not only on Earth but also on the Moon.
You might find yourself gazing through your telescope, marveling at the tiny colony buildings amidst the craters, only to spot a lunar rover with a cheeky twist – someone has painted over the rear badge to simply say, “YO.” The future of extraterrestrial travel looks exciting, and Toyota is leading the way.
