Torrance Man Who Supplied Fatal Fentanyl Faces Imminent Sentencing

A man from Los Angeles County, who confessed to supplying fentanyl resulting in the deaths of two individuals in consecutive days at Redondo Beach hotel rooms, is expected to be sentenced in November.

According to court documents, William Fulton, a 40-year-old resident of Torrance, pleaded guilty on Monday to the federal charge of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He also admitted to supplying fentanyl to the two victims who died from overdose.

The sentencing hearing, scheduled for November 27, will be presided over by U.S. District Judge Dale S. Fischer. Prosecutors have stated that Fulton could face a prison sentence of 10 years to life in a federal facility.

Fulton was indicted on five counts in May 2021, including drug charges and being a felon in possession of ammunition.

Fulton has confessed to supplying fentanyl to an individual who died on October 10, 2020, and repeating the same action the following day at another hotel, resulting in the death of a second person. When he was arrested by the Redondo Beach Police Department on October 13, 2020, Fulton was found in possession of over two ounces of fentanyl and over 2.5 ounces of methamphetamine, as stated in the indictment.

The police also confiscated two illegally possessed 9mm ghost guns and 12 rounds of ammunition from Fulton. These possessions were in violation of the law due to his previous convictions of two dozen felony offenses between 2004 and 2017, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

As per Fulton’s plea agreement, he has accepted a 16-year prison sentence and will not seek a reduced term.

On the day of his arrest, detectives from the Redondo Beach Police Department were conducting surveillance at Norm’s restaurant in Torrance. They observed Fulton parking his vehicle and sitting inside. When a man entered the passenger side of the vehicle, police apprehended Fulton. During a search, a Ziploc baggie containing 3.7 grams of a powdery substance containing fentanyl was found in his right pant leg, according to the documents filed in Los Angeles federal court.
