Top Tips: Am I Making Mistakes in the Job Interview?

When it comes to job interviews, there’s one thing that can instantly turn off a potential employer, regardless of how qualified you may be. Trash-talking. Nobody likes it.

We all know that inevitable question an interviewer will ask: Why are you leaving your current job? It can be tempting to give an honest answer, such as having a difficult boss, a toxic work environment, or feeling unappreciated.

In a recent episode of “Am I Doing It Wrong?”, my co-host Noah Michelson and I discuss how we’ve been tempted to speak negatively about our current employers during interviews. However, we learned that it doesn’t reflect well on our character.

But that doesn’t mean you should lie.

In this episode, we invited Dr. Lisa Orbe-Austin, a trusted career coach and psychologist, to share her insights on how to handle this question and provide additional do’s and don’ts for job interviews. Tune in to discover valuable tips for presenting your best self in high-pressure professional situations.

After listening to the episode (or wherever you get your podcasts), be sure to subscribe to “Am I Doing It Wrong?” so you never miss an episode.
