However, I quickly realized that I didn’t have many matte products in my collection. Regardless, I used the following products: E.l.f. Power Grip Primer, a matte full coverage foundation, Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray, Saie Airset Radiant Loose Setting Powder, and Benefit Hoola Bronzer. Despite my preference for a dewy look, this hack surprisingly worked well. My makeup remained intact even after five hours and a long walk.
2. Powder Setting:
In this hack shared by @titilola.m, the creator suggests setting the primer with powder before applying foundation, blush, and bronzer. She also recommends using setting spray on the brush for blending and applying two setting sprays. I decided to follow this routine, but I noticed that my makeup appeared slightly patchy in certain areas, possibly due to my dry skin. However, I believe this hack would work better for individuals with oily skin.
3. Setting Spray Layers:
Creator @kaushal suggests spraying every layer of makeup with a setting spray, including cream and powder products. This hack proved to be highly effective for me. I used the Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray in between each layer of my makeup, and it remarkably helped my makeup stay in place for over six hours on a scorching hot day. However, I did notice that my face appeared slightly dry, indicating the need for better moisturization before using this technique. It’s worth noting that this hack may not be suitable for daily use, as the setting spray can be drying.
4. Blotting Paper as Makeup Prep and Touch-Up:
Using blotting sheets as a makeup prep step and for touch-ups is another hack I tested. Blotting sheets effectively remove excess oil from the skin and eyelids without disturbing the makeup. I used rice blotting papers combined with translucent powder by The Hayo’u Method. I also tried using the blotting papers before applying eyeshadow to achieve a more matte finish on my eyelids. Overall, this hack worked well in preventing sweat and maintaining a matte appearance throughout the day.
5. Lightweight Products:
@lovefromelinaa shared her anti-humidity makeup routine that focuses on using lightweight products. Instead of heavy foundation, she opts for a tinted moisturizer and spot conceals with a lightweight concealer. To set her makeup, she uses a face mist and a setting spray. I found this routine to be similar to my daily routine with some additional steps. By using fewer products than usual, my base looked smooth and glowy without appearing overly dewy. This hack is great for the summer months as it keeps makeup intact despite the heat and humidity.
6. Japanese Sunscreen Serum Hack:
I had previously discovered this hack before it became popular on TikTok. The hack involves using a lightweight, serum-like sunscreen from Japanese or Korean brands to prevent makeup meltdown in the hot and humid weather. I personally used the Bioré UV Watery Essence SPF 50+, which is known for its serum-gel texture that fully absorbs into the skin without leaving a white cast. This sunscreen is sweat and water-resistant for up to 80 minutes and comes at an affordable price. Many similar sunscreens from Korea and Japan offer similar benefits.
