MIAMI, Oct. 16 (UPI) — In Week 7 of the 2023 season, my fantasy football waiver wire priority list is led by Jordan Mason, Elijah Mitchell, and Derek Carr.

Craig Reynolds, Sam Howell, and Joshua Palmer are among the other top targets to add from the waiver wire. I recommend considering backup running backs, as they could become valuable assets if the starters on their respective teams get injured.

Those who picked up Mitchell or Mason last week might benefit now. With Christian McCaffrey possibly missing time due to an oblique/rib injury, the San Francisco 49ers running backs could provide RB1 or RB2 production.

It’s important to monitor the injury status of notable players like Justin Fields, Deebo Samuel, David Montgomery, Trevor Lawrence, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Josh Allen. Depending on their availability, you should decide whether to start them or not.

Teams on byes in Week 7 include the Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, and Carolina Panthers. Consider benching or dropping players from these teams.

It’s also worth checking your waiver wire for players from the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers, who might have been dropped due to the bye week in Week 6.

My waiver wire priorities have an ownership percentage of 60% or less. Here are the top players to add and drop for Week 7:

ALL-ADD TEAM

QB | Derek Carr; RB | Jordan Mason, Elijah Mitchell, Craig Reynolds, Roschon Johnson; WR | Joshua Palmer, Quentin Johnston; TE | Pat Freiermuth; D/ST | Los Angeles Rams; K | Chris Boswell

HONORABLE MENTIONS

QB | Sam Howell; RB | Tyjae Spears, Jeff Wilson Jr., Zach Charbonnet, Kareem Hunt, Rico Dowdle; WR | Kadarius Toney, Michael Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba; TE | Logan Thomas; D/ST | Las Vegas Raiders; K | Anders Carlson

TOP DROPS

QB | Gardner Minshew; RB | Dalvin Cook; WR | Treylon Burks; TE | Tyler Conklin; D/ST | Cincinnati Bengals; K | Eddy Pineiro

Quarterback

Derek Carr is my top quarterback target for Week 7. With six teams on bye, Carr, the New Orleans Saints passer, can be a valuable QB1 streamer. He threw for a season-high 353 yards in Week 6 and has thrown two touchdown passes in Week 5.

The Las Vegas Raiders are set to host the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 7. The Jaguars just allowed Gardner Minshew to throw for 329 yards. In five of their six games this season, the Jaguars allowed at least two total scores to opposing quarterbacks. I expect Carr to have at least 250 passing yards and two scores.

Running back

The running back position offers the most potential this week from the waiver wire. Jordan Mason and Elijah Mitchell are at the top of my priorities list and should be added to rosters regardless of McCaffrey’s injury status. If McCaffrey is out, Mason will likely become the feature ball carrier with Mitchell easing back into action after recovering from a knee injury.

I added both players to my rosters last week, but I’ll wait to see McCaffrey’s availability and the expected usage of his potential replacements before deciding how to utilize them.

The San Francisco 49ers will face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7 and the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8 before their Week 9 bye. I would prioritize Mason over Mitchell, but both running backs could be valuable if McCaffrey is out.

Other running backs such as Craig Reynolds of the Detroit Lions, Roschon Johnson of the Chicago Bears, and Jeff Wilson Jr. of the Miami Dolphins could also see increased playing time due to injuries to their teammates.

Wide receiver

There aren’t many great wide receiver options on the waiver wire this week, but consider looking at the Los Angeles Chargers pass catchers behind Keenan Allen and rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba of the Seattle Seahawks.

Joshua Palmer has been more consistent than Quintin Johnston so far this season and should be your top target at the position. With the Chargers expected to throw a lot in the coming weeks, several of their pass catchers could become fantasy football relevant.

Smith-Njigba is another player worth adding to your roster. He had a season-high 48 yards on four catches in Week 6 and received at least five targets in four of his five appearances this season. While DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are still ahead of him, an injury could make Smith-Njigba a potential WR3.

Tight end

Pat Freiermuth is my top tight end to add. He might be available in your league due to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 6 bye. Although he was inactive in Week 5 because of a hamstring injury, Freiermuth could return in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Rams. He had at least four targets in three of his four games and scored twice during that span.

Freiermuth can be considered a touchdown-or-bust play, but he could find success against the Rams, who have struggled to defend tight ends. In three of their last four games, the Rams have allowed touchdowns to tight ends.
