Tips for Safeguarding Your Photos as Apple Announces July Deletion

Apple has announced that it will be permanently removing the My Photo Stream album next month. This feature automatically stores pictures taken within the last 30 days. However, due to the impending shutdown, My Photo Stream stopped uploading photos on June 26th. When the service ends on July 26th, all the pictures in the album will be deleted. If you had any pictures uploaded to My Photo Stream before June 26th, they will remain in iCloud for 30 days from the upload date and will be accessible on devices where My Photo Stream is enabled.

To ensure you don’t lose any pictures, it is recommended to go into the My Photo Stream album in your camera roll and save your pictures to your device or iCloud. Apple stopped the automatic uploading of pictures to the My Photo Stream album on June 26th. Apple reassures users that the photos in My Photo Stream are already stored on at least one of their devices, so as long as they have the device with their original photos, they won’t lose any pictures during this process. If a desired photo isn’t already in the library on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac, they should make sure to save it to their library on that specific device.

If you are already using iCloud, you don’t need to take any additional action. Saying goodbye to My Photo Stream means that iCloud is now Apple’s “best option” for securely storing all your photos and videos across all devices. It has become Apple’s preferred place for storing media.

However, there are still alternative options available. A money expert on TikTok recently shared advice with her viewers, recommending that Apple users should not pay for additional iCloud storage once they reach their free 5 gigabytes. Instead, she suggests backing up photos using the Amazon Photos app or through their Google accounts. iCloud storage has different pricing options, including 99 cents for 50 GB, $2.99 for 200 GB, and $9.99 for 2 terabytes.
