TikToker Sparks Controversy by Using Woman as Example of Unkempt Eyebrows

  • A TikTok creator was dismayed when another influencer used an old photo of her in a video.
  • Jessica Carrasco showcased Resilient GG’s selfie as an example of “how not” to do your eyebrows.
  • Resilient GG expressed her disappointment, stating that there was no need to bring down a random person to promote makeup.

A TikTok creator was horrified to discover that a fellow influencer had used a four-year-old selfie of hers as an example of “how not” to do eyebrows.

The creator, known as Resilient GG, had her image used by Jessica Carrasco in a brand deal with Benefit Cosmetics to promote an eyebrow pen.

Resilient GG shared her shock and confusion in a TikTok video, which has since been deleted.

Carrasco found a 2019 photo of Resilient GG and used it to depict someone with poorly done eyebrows. However, Resilient GG had taken down that old photo from her social media account.

In her video, Resilient GG questioned why her old photo was used without permission and expressed her confusion and frustration.

The video gained over 2.2 million views and received responses from notable creators and brands, including Anastasia Beverly Hills Cosmetics, who sent Resilient GG some of their brow products.

Carrasco responded with an apology video the same day, explaining that she had apologized to Resilient GG and removed the original video.

She shared screenshots of her conversation with Resilient GG, acknowledging that it was wrong to use the photo and informing Benefit to take down the video as well.

The video, which was initially not an ad but was reposted by Benefit’s account, was also removed from Benefit’s Instagram and TikTok pages.

Carrasco publicly apologized in her video, recognizing the hurtful and stressful nature of seeing an unintended image of oneself online.

She admitted to using the photo without consent and promised to never again use someone else’s photo, particularly in a negative context.

Carrasco mentioned that she found the photo on Google but didn’t know its original source. She expressed hope for forgiveness and concern for Resilient GG’s well-being.

Resilient GG revealed that she had come across the video on Benefit’s Instagram in April, which had 9.9 million followers. She criticized the company for dragging down a random person without any valid reason.

She emphasized the potential negative impact on someone with mental health issues or struggles with their appearance.

Although the selfie being found on spammy websites didn’t bother her as much since it wasn’t used for profit, she condemned the “mean girl behavior” of using it to promote a product.

In a later video, Resilient GG mentioned that she had done a reverse image search on the selfie and found it on multiple sketchy websites.

She reflected on her past insecurities and explained how the criticism could have greatly affected her.

Resilient GG vowed not to remove her video until appropriate action or a statement was made by Benefit, as the experience deeply hurt her feelings.

Insider reached out to Benefit, Resilient GG, and Carrasco for comments.
