In the 35th minute, Real’s Toni Kroos managed to find the back of the net with a powerful shot from the edge of the box. However, Morata quickly responded by securing his second goal in the opening minute of the second half, capitalizing on yet another assist from Saul.

With one game in hand, Atletico climbed to fifth place in the LaLiga standings with 10 points. Meanwhile, Real Madrid, who entered the weekend as the league leaders, now sit in third place with 15 points, trailing behind Barcelona and Girona by one point.

Under Diego Simeone’s guidance, Atletico dominated the match, keeping control for the majority of the game. Towards the end, they confidently passed the ball amongst themselves while their ecstatic fans chanted “Ole, ole, ole,” displaying an immense outpouring of support.

Following Morata’s opening goal, his teammate Jose Maria Gimenez missed a golden opportunity in the 10th minute with a close-range header from a corner delivered by Griezmann, who later scored the second goal with a header of his own, just eight minutes later.

In the 30th minute, Real’s midfielder Eduardo Camavinga attempted a curled shot from range, but it was deflected for a corner. Goalkeeper Jan Oblak thwarted Federico Valverde’s first-touch strike from the corner, initiating a swift counter-attack that nearly resulted in Atletico’s third goal. However, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga made an outstanding one-handed save to deny Saul’s strike.

Real’s Kroos narrowed the gap to 2-1 before Camavinga had a goal disallowed for offside in the lead-up to the break.

In the second half, Real struggled to create any significant chances following Morata’s quickfire goal.

“I am incredibly happy for all the fans who came and showed their amazing support today,” Morata expressed to DAZN. “As I mentioned before, the fans played the most crucial role, and that’s exactly what happened. The atmosphere was truly unbelievable.”
