Thrilling Flight Incident as Smuggled Animals Wander Free, Negligence by Employee Unveiled

  • Animals were discovered aboard a flight originating from Thailand and bound for Taiwan.
  • The Bangkok Post reported that two passengers managed to smuggle the animals onto the flight, bypassing security when a staff member failed to inspect their bag.
  • According to a wildlife inspection chief, the confiscated animals included 20 Burmese star tortoises and two otters.

Wild animals caused mayhem inside a flight traveling from Thailand to Taiwan, as reported by the local newspaper, Bangkok Post.

According to Bangkok Post, two passengers successfully smuggled the animals past the security checkpoints at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok and brought them onto a VietJet Air flight bound for Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei.

A video, initially posted by metro.co.uk and credited to Viralpress, displays a small brown animal rolling underneath a seat, prompting other passengers to stand on their seats to avoid contact with it.

A passenger is heard in the video saying in Thai, “Is that a rat? I don’t think it’s a rat. Looks like illegal animal trading.”

Later in the video, three flight attendants are shown securing the animal inside a black bag. Airport staff dressed in white uniforms are then seen placing pet carriers onto airport trolleys. One of the cages contains a white animal with red eyes.

Bangkok Post reports that a passenger initially spotted an animal while heading to the lavatory. A flight attendant got bitten by the animal after attempting to catch it.

Upon arrival in Taipei, airport authorities discovered numerous animals inside the bag, including 20 Burmese star tortoises and two otters. Bangkok Post quotes Pakpong Pathong, the wildlife inspection chief at Suvarnabhumi Airport, providing this information.

When flight attendants requested the owner of the animals to come forward, a female passenger claimed responsibility. However, she refused to collect the bag once the plane landed. Taiwanese authorities have since interrogated her.

According to Bangkok Post, the female passenger and another male passenger smuggled the animals onto the plane after an employee at the baggage screening area did not inspect their bag, despite a coworker suspecting its contents. The employee has been suspended in response.

No immediate comments were provided by VietJet Air, Suvarnabhumi Airport, or Taiwan’s Aviation Police Bureau in relation to this incident.
