Thrilling Escape: Pennsylvania Vet Clinic Battling Persistent Runaway Tortoise

Sept. 26 (UPI) — Residents of a Pennsylvania town are being asked to keep a lookout for a tortoise who has, once again, escaped from his home at a veterinary clinic.

The Mahoning Valley Animal Hospital in Leighton has reported that Tank, a tortoise belonging to veterinarian Mike Nelson, managed to get out of his outdoor pen outside the clinic for the third time. The clinic shared the news on Facebook.

Megan Mcfarland, a veterinarian technician at the animal hospital, jokingly speculated, “I think he caught wind that Dr. Mike was going to bring him in for the season, and he just decided he was going to high-tail it and go on an adventure.” Mcfarland shared these details in an interview with WNEP-TV.[source]

The escape occurred either Thursday night or early Friday morning. McFarland described the scene when they discovered the breach, saying, “We walked out to the yard; all of us looked around the perimeter just to make sure [he wasn’t] hiding somewhere that Dr. Mike just didn’t see, and Dr. Mike noticed there was a hole in the fence that the little sucker plowed through.”

This isn’t the first time Tank has pulled off such an escape. McFarland affectionately refers to him as Houdini, stating that he has managed to get loose two times before. On previous occasions, they were able to find Tank relatively close by. However, the last time he went missing, it took them about two weeks to track him down.
