Three Whales Simultaneously Breach in Captivating Video

Witnessing a rare spectacle, a New Hampshire man celebrating his birthday on a tuna fishing trip off Cape Cod captured an incredible video of three humpback whales leaping from the water in perfect synchronization. Robert Addie, a former commercial fisherman, had spent years on the ocean and had seen thousands of whales, but this breathtaking display was unlike anything he had ever seen before. Marine scientists are even envious of the footage.

Addie’s fishing trip was not only a celebration of his 59th birthday but also his safe return from a humanitarian aid trip to Ukraine, where he experienced heavy artillery fire. Initially, he was struggling to capture footage of the humpback whales from about 300 yards away. However, his luck changed when he witnessed what he described as a “whale ballet.”

“A triple breach is incredibly rare, and a synchronized triple breach is even more unheard of,” Addie said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I feel blessed to have been able to capture it on video.” Adding to the excitement, a juvenile whale also performed the same aerial maneuvers moments after the three whales. Whale experts later informed Addie that these actions could be an attempt to remove parasites or aid in digestion. The rarity of this spectacle has even left whale experts, who reached out to Addie, feeling envious as they have never witnessed such an event before.
