Thousands of Young Scouts to Be Evacuated from World Jamboree in South Korea Due to Impending Storm

South Korea is taking precautionary measures to evacuate tens of thousands of scouts from the World Scout Jamboree site as Tropical Storm Khanun approaches. Starting tomorrow morning, buses will transport around 36,000 scouts, mostly teenagers, from the coastal jamboree site in Buan to venues in Seoul and the nearby metropolitan area. The scouts, who hail from 158 countries, will be accommodated in government training centers, education facilities, and hotels. The evacuation process is expected to take at least six hours. The decision to evacuate came after the World Organization of the Scout Movement urgently called on South Korea to move the scouts out of the storm’s path and provide necessary resources and support. South Korea’s government has not yet disclosed the specific venues where the scouts will be relocated. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Khanun is forecasted to make landfall in South Korea on Thursday morning, potentially bringing strong winds and heavy rain.
