Thom Yorke, the lead vocalist of Radiohead, will be showcasing his new artwork in collaboration with Stanley Donwood this September. This exhibition is another testament to the strong connection between the rock band and the art world.

June 17 (UPI) — The upcoming exhibition, titled The Crow Flies, was announced by Tin Man Art on Instagram. Yorke and Donwood have co-created a series of paintings that will be displayed in London.

This will be the third exhibition featuring artwork by Thom Yorke under Tin Man’s representation. Previously, they showcased artwork created for the album covers of Kid A and Amnesiac at Christie’s in London in October 2021. They also exhibited over 60 drawings in a show called Test Specimens in May 2022.

In 2021, Yorke and Donwood, along with longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, collaborated on an exploration game published by Epic Games for the PlayStation 5 console. This game was based on the band’s music and art, originally intended to be a physical installation but transformed into a digital experience due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yorke and Donwood described their experience working on the game as “strange” and “unreal” in a blog post after its release. They referred to it as a “mutant re-engineering” of Kid A and Amnesiac.

Donwood and Yorke’s artistic collaboration dates back to their time as art students at the University of Exeter. Yorke initially approached Donwood to design the cover for Radiohead’s 1994 EP, My Iron Lung, and ever since then, Donwood has created covers for all of Radiohead’s releases, as well as Yorke’s other musical projects.

The band’s connection to the art world extends beyond Yorke and Donwood. Recently, an exhibition featuring paintings by Radiohead drummer Philip Selway in collaboration with artist Stewart Geddes was showcased by Tin Man. The collaboration began during the pandemic when Selway was working on his third solo album. Geddes was invited to create the cover art, which evolved into a series of paintings inspired by the music.

Jonny Greenwood, the band’s lead guitarist and keyboardist, is married to Israeli artist Sharona Katan, who has contributed artwork to his film soundtracks. Meanwhile, Colin Greenwood, the band’s bassist, has been recognized for his photography skills and has had his photos published on the band’s website.

Although guitarist Ed O’Brien does not have known individual ties to the visual arts, his 2020 debut solo album, Earth, received critical acclaim.
