Third Recall Announced by Trader Joe’s: Falafel Product Recalled

  • Trader Joe’s issued a voluntary recall on Friday for its Falafel product due to potential rock contamination.
  • This marks the third product recall by the company within a week.
  • Other products that were recalled may have also contained rocks and insects.

Another one bites the dust… or rather, the rock.

Trader Joe’s has issued a recall for its Fully Cooked Falafel on Friday due to potential rock contamination. This is the fourth product to be recalled by the grocery chain within the past week, raising concerns about contamination.

The company has ensured that all products potentially containing foreign materials have been voluntarily removed from shelves and disposed of. Customers who purchased the product prior to the recall notice are advised to either discard it or return it to Trader Joe’s for a refund, as stated in a notification posted on the company’s website.

A spokesperson for Trader Joe’s informed Insider that a vendor alerted them to a manufacturing issue.

The spokesperson did not provide specific details on how the rocks may have ended up in the food. However, it’s known that stones and debris can accidentally end up in food during collection processes, such as with nuts or fruits, if proper separation methods are not followed. Food safety company Safefood360 emphasizes this concern in their report.

Trader Joe’s previously recalled two types of almond cookies on July 21, also due to potential rock contamination. Additionally, nearly 11,000 cases of Unexpected Broccoli Cheddar Soup were recalled on Thursday after insects were discovered in the frozen broccoli.

The spokesperson stated, “In each of these cases, there was an issue in the manufacturing processes in the facilities. We removed the product from our shelves as soon as we became aware of the issue and promptly notified our customers.”

This is not the first time the chain has faced recalls this year. In March, Trader Joe’s had to recall a frozen fruit blend due to concerns of hepatitis A contamination. Furthermore, in June, major retailers such as Walmart, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Target, and Aldi voluntarily recalled various fruit products due to potential bacterial contamination.
