The Unseen View that Sealed the House Sale

A UK businessman’s decision to purchase a cottage in Donegal was prompted by a single photo of the property’s beautiful back garden. Rhys Kiff’s colleagues initially assumed he had relocated to the Mediterranean or Adriatic coast when they saw the picture online. However, to their surprise, it turned out to be his new home in Ireland. Kiff, who has Irish heritage, had moved to Dublin for work after Brexit but soon realized he needed a bigger and more tranquil space outside the city. With the option to work remotely due to Covid-19, he began searching for a country residence and instantly fell in love with a cottage on the Fanad Peninsula. He bought it without even visiting it in person, relying on the trust he had in the agent. The flexible work arrangements and improved conditions allowed him to move to the cottage sooner than expected. The two-bedroom traditional cottage, built in the late 19th century, sits on approximately 41 acres of land with a private cove. Kiff adores the coastal setting and the ability to make work calls while enjoying the sound and smell of the sea. The property’s interiors have a simple, traditional design with personal touches such as quirky artwork and a vintage bar. The house has been well-maintained, with a new roof in 2007 and insulation in 2016. Smart electric radiators have been installed, allowing for remote control. The cottage also has high-speed broadband. Although the location may seem remote, Kiff quickly became part of the local community, particularly in the nearby pub, The Lighthouse. However, Kiff’s time in Donegal is coming to an end as he is relocating to Oxford for work. He has decided to sell the cottage, although he feels sentimental about leaving the stunning location behind. The cottage is currently listed with an asking price of €325,000 through Rainey Estate Agents.
