July 24 (UPI) — The Tennessee Titans have revealed their retro uniforms for two upcoming games this season. The team showcased the throwback jerseys and pants on their website and social media accounts.
The Titans, formerly known as the Houston/Tennessee Oilers, originally wore these uniforms from 1981 to 1998. Since moving to Tennessee in 1997, the franchise wanted to pay tribute to its history.
Titans vice president and executive creative director Surf Melendez stated, “This choice allows us to acknowledge and honor as many players as possible, spanning across a significant period of time. It also symbolizes our transition to Tennessee, as we continued to wear these uniforms after the move.”
The throwback jerseys, known as “Columbia Blue,” feature white numbers and names outlined in red. The sleeves of the jerseys are adorned with bands of red, white, and light blue.
As part of the retro look, the Titans will wear white helmets displaying the Oilers’ iconic oil derrick logo. The helmets include red face masks and a blue stripe. Additionally, the players will don white pants with red and blue stripes on the sides.
The Titans have announced that they will wear these jerseys during two home games of the 2023-24 NFL season, without specifying the exact dates.
Training camp for Titans rookies began in Nashville on Saturday, with veterans set to report on Tuesday at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park.
On August 12, at 1 p.m. EDT, the Titans will play their first preseason game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago.
