Readers responded strongly to the letter published on these pages last month, written by a father who was outraged by a “child-friendly” Shakespeare show that contained inappropriate language, adult jokes, and transgender themes.

The man had bought tickets to the show for his eight-year-old daughter as a birthday present, but their night ended in tears when they had to leave halfway through and he had to explain to his 11-year-old what a “man whore” was when they got home.

The controversial show was & Juliet, produced by Greene Light Stage and performed at the Shaftesbury Theatre. When I reached out to the production company to inquire about their decision to deem the show suitable for children aged six and above, they refused to engage in conversation.

This type of stonewalling is uncommon for reputable companies with nothing to hide, and it appears that Telegraph readers were just as disappointed as I was by the lack of response or concern for these customers. Needless to say, no refund or compensation was offered either.

However, one reader who happened to read the article on his own birthday was so appalled by the entire situation that he felt compelled to contact me with a generous offer. He expressed his desire to treat the family to tickets for another show of their choice, so they could finally enjoy the happy family outing that was initially intended.

The girls’ father was deeply touched by this kind gesture and accepted it. He mentioned that encountering such a gracious and selfless act is uncommon in today’s world, and sadly, he is correct. Nevertheless, it is truly a pleasure to highlight and support such acts when they do occur.

I hope the family has an amazing time at their next show. The girls have expressed interest in seeing either Harry Potter or Frozen, and I have no doubt that either of those options would be much more suitable for their age compared to Greene Light Stage’s “modern” Shakespeare adaptation.

Wishing you all the best.
