The Prime Minister discloses that Boris Johnson requested an action that she had not anticipated doing.

Rishi Sunak has revealed that he refused to comply with Boris Johnson’s request to overrule the House of Lords Appointments Commission (HOLAC) in his resignation honours list. Speaking at London Tech Week, the Chancellor stated that he was asked by the Prime Minister to disregard the HOLAC committee’s decisions or make promises to certain individuals. However, Mr Sunak stood his ground and refused to comply, saying that he did not believe it was the right thing to do. HOLAC had opposed eight of Mr Johnson’s peerage nominees. In response to the Chancellor’s comments, a spokesperson for Mr Johnson has claimed that Mr Sunak has covertly blocked some of the former Prime Minister’s peerage picks – an allegation which has been rejected by Downing Street and senior ministers.
