Los Angeles — Change is afoot at Hollywood’s iconic Television City. Since its revival in 1972 with Bob Barker as the host, “The Price is Right” has recorded over 9,500 episodes at the Television City lot in Los Angeles. However, it is now preparing to move to a new location.
“I’ll miss the sense of history,” remarked Drew Carey, the current host and comedian, about the upcoming move.
“Coming here has always felt like slipping into a comfortable shoe,” added Carey, who has been the host since 2007.
Memorable games such as Plinko, Hole in One, and the Showcase Showdown will all be making their way to a new stage in the nearby city of Glendale, situated in the northeastern part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
“I watched this show every day with my grandma while I was growing up, so it’s a sad day for me,” expressed Amber Lancaster, a model on the show.
The sentiment was shared by show announcer George Gray, who expressed his sadness over the show’s departure from Studio 33, the same stage that once hosted the legendary “The Carol Burnett Show.”
“If it was up to me, we wouldn’t leave, you know. I love the history associated with this place,” said Gray.
“Being here and being the last host of ‘The Price is Right’ at this location, and being trusted to carry the legacy forward and start afresh on a new stage, I feel honored,” Carey said.
The more modern studio in Glendale will be unveiled this autumn, where contestants will continue to “come on down” for many more seasons.
