The Power of Perception: Witness World Leaders as Babies through AI’s Imagination

Even notorious political figures like Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin were once innocent babies, and now, thanks to artificial intelligence, we can see what they might have looked like before becoming power-hungry dictators. Midjourney, an AI-powered imaging software, has created images of these young rulers based on text prompts. These AI-generated images depict each baby with a suit and the iconic hairstyles that these tyrants are known for. This trend gained attention when a baby image of Elon Musk went viral, showing the billionaire as a toddler with his signature look.

AI-generated images have been taking the internet by storm lately, some bringing joy and others evoking terror. In March, a photo of Pope Francis wearing an oversized white puffer jacket fooled the internet, even catching the attention of Chrissy Teigen, who expressed her concern about the future of technology. Likewise, a series of images surfaced showing scenes of Donald Trump being tackled by police officers, coinciding with allegations surrounding hush money paid to a porn star. However, people quickly realized that these images were manipulated.

While some AI-generated images are purely for entertainment, others have the potential to impact the real world. For instance, a fake image claiming an explosion at the Pentagon caused stock markets to crash, demonstrating the power of this technology. It is evident that AI-generated images can provoke both fascination and concern in equal measure.

Midjourney, developed by Silicon Valley scientists, has been available since last summer, allowing users to generate AI images based on various prompts. DailyMail.com decided to explore what world leaders would look like as babies using this tool after seeing a viral Instagram post that reimagined these leaders through AI. Kim Jong Un, Vladimir Putin, and Bashar al-Assad, all accused of human rights violations, were chosen as subjects for this project.

According to the US Department of State, Kim Jong Un has been accused of torturing and unlawfully killing his own people, operating political prison camps, and suppressing religion and media. Reports also suggest cases of infanticide and forced abortion, particularly targeting political prisoners, individuals with disabilities, victims of government officials’ or prison guards’ rape, and escapees forcibly repatriated from China.

In the case of Vladimir Putin, he is currently embroiled in a war of aggression against Ukraine, as his invasion of the sovereign country in February 2022 indicates. The International Criminal Court has issued a warrant for Putin’s arrest, holding him personally responsible for the abductions of children in Ukraine. Human rights organizations report that tens of thousands of children have been deported as a result of the conflict.

Bashar al-Assad, who served as Syria’s president since 2000, infamously ordered a sarin gas attack on rebel-held suburbs of Damascus in 2019, resulting in the agonizing deaths of hundreds, including many children. The gas caused muscle spasms that made breathing impossible, leading to a horrific scene of suffocation and suffering.

China’s Xi Jinping, another controversial figure, was also reimagined as a baby by Midjourney. Xi has been the general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party and chairman of the Central Military Commission since 2012. His rule has been marred by religious and political repression, surveillance, indoctrination, torture, forced abortions and sterilizations, and state-sponsored forced labor, particularly targeting minority groups.

In summary, AI-powered imaging software like Midjourney has provided us with thought-provoking images of world leaders as babies. While these images can be amusing or alarming, they also serve as a reminder of the controversial actions and human rights abuses associated with these leaders.
