Philippine Women’s football team has climbed up to a new record 46th spot in the latest world rankings before the Fifa Women’s World Cup. The squad moved three spots higher based on its performances in the first round of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament and the Southeast Asian Games. The Philippines scored 16 goals and conceded none in all three matches during the initial round of qualifying for the Paris Games. However, in Cambodia, they missed out on a semifinal appearance in the SEA Games as they lost 1-0 to Myanmar before defeating Malaysia and Vietnam.
The Philippine side is now positioned eighth among the nations under the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and is still at third in Southeast Asia behind fellow World Cup participants Vietnam (No. 32) and Thailand (No. 44). The United States, seeking a third consecutive World Cup title, is still on top of the rankings, followed by Germany, Sweden, England, France, Spain, Canada, Brazil, Netherlands, and Australia, the top team under the AFC banner. Japan is second behind Australia among AFC nations, with China in third and South Korea in fourth.
