The Perks of Leigh-Anne Pinnock’s Solo Music Journey Away from Little Mix

The 31-year-old singer gained fame as a member of the girl band alongside Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, and Jesy Nelson. After spending 11 years in the group, they decided to go on hiatus last year. On Friday, Pinnock released her debut solo song titled “Don’t Say Love,” with an album set to follow.

During an appearance on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show, Pinnock expressed her desire for the album to resemble an open letter. She explained, “It’s an opportunity for me to express things I couldn’t before, whether it’s about my relationship or my experiences in the group.”

The singer admitted feeling pressure due to the high expectations the group had after their immense success together. Despite her initial anxieties, she’s overjoyed with the positive reception to her solo venture. She stated, “I’m on cloud nine. So many good things are happening, and the response has been incredible. I was really scared too because there are high expectations for all of us as we venture out solo, but I’m proud and excited.”

The girl band was formed in 2011 on The X Factor and became the first group to win the competition.

Pinnock released six studio albums with the band, and in 2021, they released a compilation album titled “Between Us” to celebrate their 10-year anniversary. The compilation included hit tracks from their decade-long career and five new unreleased songs.

Pinnock expressed her gratitude for her time in the group and the experience it provided her. She shared, “We initially auditioned as solo artists, but being placed in a group was the best thing that could have happened. Now, I have all this experience and knowledge that I can apply to my solo career. It finally feels like the right time.”

She also revealed that by the time the group decided to take a break, they felt it was necessary to spread their wings and pursue individual endeavors.

In addition to her music career, Pinnock recently got married to footballer Andre Gray in Jamaica, where some of her family resides. She described the wedding as “beautiful” and mentioned that Jahmene Douglas from The X Factor sang as she walked down the aisle. She emphasized the presence of her friends and family and called the day a dream come true.

However, Pinnock acknowledged the challenges of maintaining a long-distance relationship with Gray, who signed with Greek Super League club Aris. She stated, “It’s quite difficult, especially with the babies, but we’re doing what we have to do. He’s working hard to provide, and I’m working hard. We do it all for our children.”

Earlier this year, Pinnock’s former bandmate Jesy Nelson also released her second solo single after leaving the group in 2020 due to the toll it had taken on her mental health.
