The Impact of the ‘Taylor Swift Effect’ Drives Surge in Ticket Sales for Highly Anticipated Chiefs-Jets Matchup

The “Taylor Swift Effect” not only has a positive impact on Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs, but it is also influencing other NFL teams. On September 24, Swift made an appearance at the Chiefs game, sitting in Kelce’s box, and since then, fans have been speculating that she might attend the game against the Jets at Met Life Stadium on October 1. This speculation has resulted in a surge in ticket sales, with platforms like StubHub reporting a 175% increase in Chiefs-Jets ticket sales. Nearly 20% of tickets for the upcoming game were sold on the night of Swift’s appearance. The Chiefs-Jets game is now the second highest-selling game for the weekend, behind the Patriots-Cowboys game.

According to StubHub, ticket sales for the Chiefs-Jets game increased by 175% within three days of Swift’s appearance. On the night of Swift’s appearance, almost 20% of tickets for the game were sold. The game now ranks second in terms of ticket sales for the weekend, behind the Patriots-Cowboys game. Other ticket resale platforms like SeatGeek and Vivid Seats also experienced a surge in ticket sales and an increase in ticket prices for the Chiefs-Jets game.

The average ticket prices for the Chiefs-Jets game on SeatGeek started at $168 on Sunday and gradually increased to $245 on Wednesday. Vivid Seats confirmed a 14% increase in ticket prices for the game, along with a 173% increase in traffic to the Chiefs-Jets game page and a 126% increase in traffic to the Chiefs page on their site. Furthermore, traffic to the Vikings-Chiefs game page, where fans can buy tickets to the game on October 8, has increased by 121%.

In addition to the boost in ticket sales, Swift has also had an impact on merchandise sales and condiments. Sales of Kelce’s jersey increased by approximately 400% following Swift’s appearance, and a TikTok trend emerged where fans joke about Swift putting Kelce on the map. Additionally, Swift was seen at the Chiefs game eating a piece of chicken with ketchup and ranch, which led to Heinz creating a limited edition “Ketchup and Seemingly Ranch” combo. Vivid Seats also found that the average ticket prices for Swift’s Eras Tour shows at various stadiums were 242% higher than the average price for Chiefs games at those same stadiums.

Swift’s influence extends beyond ticket sales and merchandise. On September 21, she encouraged her Instagram followers to register to vote at Vote.org, resulting in 35,000 registrations and 50,000 verifications of voter registration status.
