The Flash Makes Its Debut Amid Enthusiasm and Controversy

The highly-anticipated movie, The Flash, premiered in Hollywood on Monday, marking a significant milestone for star Ezra Miller and the DC Extended Universe, according to a report from CNBC. Despite Miller’s absence during promotional tours, they attended the premiere and expressed gratitude towards director James Gunn and DC executives. Following nearly a decade of development, The Flash is projected to make up to $85 million during its opening weekend.

Initial reviews of The Flash have been mostly positive, with a 70% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critic Brian Lowry from CNN described the movie as “funny, action-packed, and effectively touching,” while Michael O’Sullivan from the Washington Post praised Miller’s “mesmerizing energy.” However, Barry Hertz from the Globe and Mail criticized the film as “spaghetti-brained,” and Bob Bloom from the Journal and Courier compared it to a slow-moving freight train.

Addressing their troubled past, Miller, who identifies with they/them pronouns, acknowledged their controversies, including allegations of grooming minors, and referred to it as “a time of intense crisis.” They also stated that they were seeking treatment for their “complex mental health issues” related to their actions. The nationwide premiere of The Flash is scheduled for Friday. (Read more movies stories.)
