Kevin Costner Settles Child Support Payment Dispute

In September, the child support payment dispute between Kevin Costner and his estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, was finally resolved. The judge’s ruling required Costner to pay $63,209 per month, which is $100,000 less than what Baumgartner initially requested.
Baumgartner’s initial request for $248,000 per month, to maintain the children’s accustomed lifestyle, was drastically reduced by her lawyers to $161,592. However, the judge sided with Costner, allowing him to pay $63,209 per month, significantly less than his ex-wife’s lawyers sought.
According to Santa Barbara County Judge Thomas P. Anderle, the child support order adequately meets the reasonable needs of the children. Any amount exceeding $63,209 per month would be considered disguised spousal support. The focus of the hearing was not spousal support, but Baumgartner will have the opportunity to present her case for it separately.
In addition to the child support payments, Costner is responsible for covering all of the children’s health insurance costs, unreimbursed healthcare expenses, private school tuition and related costs, as well as extracurricular expenses, hunting club dues, and expenses related to their son Cayden’s car.
