Texas Woman’s Shocking Escape Attempt from Authorities After Fatally Targeting Pro-Cyclist: Sheriff Reports

A Texas woman imprisoned for the murder of a 25-year-old professional cyclist successfully evaded custody on Wednesday morning, as captured in a video that showcases her desperate bid for freedom.

According to Kristen Dark, a public information officer with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred when two correctional officers were escorting suspect Kaitlin Armstrong to a correctional vehicle after a medical appointment. Armstrong managed to run for approximately a block and a half before being apprehended by the officers.

Video footage obtained from local station KXAN depicts the incident, with Armstrong being pursued frantically near a parking lot. Dark confirmed that the footage indeed shows Armstrong attempting to flee.

Armstrong’s attorney’s office declined to comment on the matter due to a gag order.

In the video, Armstrong, dressed in a black-and-white-striped outfit, makes a dash towards a wall and tries to climb over it while a correctional officer gives chase.

Regarding the method of restraint used during transport, Dark could not provide specific details, noting that it varies depending on the individual’s medical condition.

After the incident, Armstrong and the two correctional officers were brought to a local hospital for evaluation. Minor injuries were reported. Armstrong was then returned to the county jail facility. Dark could not confirm if Armstrong had made any other escape attempts since her initial arrest.

The 35-year-old Armstrong faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, in the killing of Anna “Mo” Wilson in Austin, Texas, last year.

Authorities linked Armstrong to Wilson’s death after her vehicle was allegedly captured on camera near the crime scene and around the time of the shooting. Armstrong subsequently sold her vehicle and fled to Costa Rica, leading to a seven-week manhunt that culminated in her arrest on June 29 of last year.

Dark stated that Armstrong is likely to face additional charges following her recent escape attempt, although she could not provide details on the nature of these charges.

Online court records indicate that Armstrong’s trial is scheduled to commence later this month.
