Texas Man Suspected of Murdering Missing Woman Paula Belonga

A Texas man, Jesse Lee Williams, was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force on Tuesday on charges of murder in connection with the disappearance of Paula Belonga. The arrest was made after authorities discovered evidence linking Williams to the crime through his phone’s data. Suspicious online searches, including “How long does it take for a body to decompose to bones,” were found to have been conducted after Belonga went missing.

According to the arrest warrant, Belonga, 51, was reported missing on April 9. Her car was later found parked at the mobile home where Williams had been staying. Police also discovered a necklace belonging to Belonga and a bone near a location mentioned in the online searches.

Williams, who has not yet appeared in court, was previously involved in an alleged assault against his girlfriend and her daughter. The girlfriend revealed that Williams had been dating her and living in the mobile home with her.

In an interview with police, Williams claimed that Belonga had visited him on the day she was last seen and left with another man. However, digital data retrieved from his phone revealed that he had actually spent time at Belonga’s apartment before and after her disappearance. The messages between them indicated a close relationship, with Williams referring to Belonga as “beautiful” and “sweetheart.” Suspicious internet searches, including “How to muffle sound of gun with sock” and “How do the cops trace a cell phone?”, were also found in his search history.

Based on the information obtained from Williams’ phone, police conducted a search and discovered Belonga’s gold necklace and a small bone on the side of the road.

Williams is currently held in Smith County Jail on a $750,000 bond.
